AP Computer Science Principles is an introductory college-level computing course that introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. Students learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students also explain how computing innovations and computing systems—including the internet—work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical.

If you are interested in registering for AP Computer Science Principles, complete the registration information on the website and pay the $400 course registration fee. 

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

It is not uncommon for some students to experience difficulties keeping up with the amount of work this course requires. While we want our students to persevere through difficult challenges, we also understand that summer plans and schedules change for teenagers. To that end, the following withdraw/reimbursements dates have been established so students/parents won’t feel overwhelmed if other circumstances due arise.

$200 refund if the student withdraws by Friday, June 21, 2024.

$100 refund if the student withdraws by Friday, July 12, 2024.

We cannot process refunds for students who choose to withdraw from the course after Friday, July 12, 2024.

*If a student chooses to withdrawal from the course after the 10th school day of the 24-25 school year, the transcript will reflect the withdraw, with a WP (Withdraw Pass) or a WF (Withdraw Fail), in congruence with the student’s overall grade at the time the student is withdrawn from the course.

June 3- Zoom kickoff meeting 5-5:30. Mandatory first meeting on Zoom with enrolled students. If unable to attend, must watch the recording that will be emailed.

June 7- Items in Start Here folder due

June 24- have unit 1 completed
Wednesday, June 26- in person meeting from 10am-12pm at GVMS library

July 8- have unit 2 completed
July 29- have unit 3 completed
August 19- have unit 4 completed
September 23- have unit 5 completed
Saturday October 19- 3 hour meeting in person (10am-1pm) at GVMS library for Create project

October 21- have unit 6 completed
November 18- have unit 7 completed
December 16- Have unit 9 completed
Saturday, January 11- 3 hour meeting in person (10am-1pm)  at GVMS library for Create project.

January 13- Have unit 10 completed
Saturday, March 8- 3 hour meeting in person (10am-1pm)  at GVMS library for Create project.
April (specific day TBA)- practice test scheduled and Create project due

Monday, May 23rd- complete Student Survey/Reflection on Course
